Phil Bates 'Up Close & Personal' : Greystoke Castle, Cumbria - 20th December 2024
What a brilliant concert by Phil Bates at the stunning Greystoke Castle. The gig was set in the Great Hall which was beautifully decorated and with a huge Christmas tree!
Lovely appreciative audience who enjoyed the varied songs performed by Phil and Jo Bates. Lots of really nice acoustic reworkings of ELO songs including Evil Woman, Showdown, Last Train To London, Twilight, Can't Get It Out Of My Head, Don't Bring Me Down and even Mr Blue Sky.
Phil also included some blues songs, Beatles songs and his own original songs including Walk Upon The Water, Port In A Storm and Waiting For The Sh*t To Hit The Fan (the audience loved this one).
It was lovely to chat with Phil and Jo throughout the evening and also with friends who had also travelled some distance for the show, Richard, Wayne and Pat. Thanks for the great company.
I am also so honoured to have been Jo's official 'whistle warmer' for the evening. Haha!!
A few photos from the gig below (including a great photo of the outside of the stunning Greystoke Castle taken by Pat MacDonald).
Check out the Video Section to view some footage I took of the gig.

Steve Gibbons Trio : Barnoldswick Music & Arts Centre - 12th February 2024
What a fantastic gig by the legendary Steve Gibbons Trio at Barnoldswick Music & Arts Centre on Monday 12th February 2024. Steve now 82 years old is still an amazing performer and the band are a very tight unit. Plenty of laughs throughout the show especially with the harmonica choices :-)
Such a wide selection of songs and styles were performed throughout with the performance split into two 45 minute sets. Plenty of classic Steve songs from his vast back catalogue, plus blues and rock & roll covers. Of course my own personal favourite was saved until the encore, what Steve termed their 'one hit' from the 1970's - 'Tulane'. A wonderful performance and long may Steve continue to play live.
