E.L.O. Part 2 : Arlington Heights, Illinois - 3rd July 2000
FRONTIER DAYS FESTIVAL.
If there's anyone out there who hasn't seen ELO 2 yet, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?! Another phenomenal show went into the books last night.
From the opening of Fire On High, the crowd at Frontier Days in Arlington Heights was in for a ride to the land of make believe. (I would've said the air was filled with Strange Magic, but that would've been too obvious).
ELO 2 with an orchestra is a great time, but in a surrounding like a festival, the shows become more personal, and the atmosphere certainly proved it. ELO fans, their children, and grandchildren were treated to a great performance which included Over London Skies. Even Kelly forgetting some words didn't detract from the fun that was had by all in attendance. In fact, I believe it added to it. That goes to show that these guys love to entertain, and that they did.
I was taking pictures when someone took my hand and led me to the front of the stage to get some good shots. You know who you are, and I want to say thank you very much. Write me at [email protected] .
This was the first time I've been that close, and I now know how hard these guys work to put on a show. The overall performance was spectacular, especially Gordon's drumming. Definitely an equal to Bev. This guy really fits in with the ELO style.........tireless and energetic. Eric, Kelly, and Parth proved once again that it's a group effort, not an individual project, combining perfect melodies and showing they still have range and drive. If the crowd even thought of just sitting around, Kelly took care of that. Mik's violin virtuosity and Sir Lou's orchestral keyboards were enough of a backing for this show.
The song list was:
Fire On High
All Over the World
Evil Woman
Showdown
Over London Skies
Livin' Thing
I'm Alive
Xanadu
- hello -
Can't Get It Out Of My Head
Rock-N-Roll Is King
Twilight
Last Train To London
Diary of Horace Wimp
Ma-Ma-Ma Belle
Strange Magic
Sweet Talkin' Woman
Do Ya
- intros -
Telephone Line
Standing In the Rain
Mr. Blue Sky
Rockaria!
Turn To Stone
Don't Bring Me Down
Once again, ELO 2's fans were satisfied. The only thing wrong with the evening was that it had to end, but not one person wasn't smiling when the show came to it's conclusion.
Thanks guys, and I'll be waiting for you to be in the Chicago area soon. Continued success........................................GET THIS GROUP IN THE HALL OF FAME ALREADY!!!!!
