Once again, we have a nicely put together live set by our 'friends' in the Far East. This 2cd recording features E.L.O. performing live at Wembley Arena, London in 1982 during the Time tour.
The artwork and packaging of the cd are excellent with a great period photo of Kelly and Jeff live on stage. The back inlay however is obviously not from the same period as the concert as it features both Melvyn Gale & Hugh McDowell as well as the ever-present blue violinist Mik Kaminski.
The sound quality is reasonably good with no discernible 'hiss' or other noise during the recording. A couple of songs have been edited out from the complete concert, but what is on the recording more than makes up for this.
From the start it is obvious the crowd are totally behind the band, singing, clapping and cheering throughout. Perhaps the fact it was the first time in over 3 years the band had played live in the U.K. that the audience were so 'up for it' !!
The cd starts off with a couple of tracks from the then new album 'Time'. 'Twilight' and then 'Yours Truly, 2095' are superbly performed. Jeff Lynne then speaks to the crowd before introducing three old hits, 'Evil Woman', 'Livin Thing' and 'Telephone Line'.
Another couple of new tracks follow which are superbly performed, 'Here Is The News' and 'From The End Of The World'. Mik Kaminski then takes centre stage to perform another of his excellent solo routines.
Jeff then comes back to the microphone and introduces the next part of the show which is ELO's tribute to the late John Lennon. The audience are then treated to a great medley of the ex-Beatle's best known songs.
The second cd kicks off with a 30 minute medley of ELO's greatest hits - once again, this is brilliantly performed. Jeff then comes to the front to introduce the bands latest hit single 'Hold On Tight'.
As the show is now coming to a close , Bev's drumming really starts to pick up as the band launch into a fantastic version of 'Don't Bring Me Down'. Resounding applause then follows leading into the final song 'Rol Over Beethoven'.
With a total running time of over 90 minutes and very good sound quality, this recording is certainly on a par with the Twilight - Live In Cologne 1982 bootleg recording. And of course, until an official Time-era live concert recording is released, these 'unofficial' recordings are the only way of listening to the bands songs performed live during this period.
Obviously for the ELO completist only, once again I can certainly recommend it to anybody interested in this sort of live recording.
